Opinion of The Week

So, I was at Target the other day, and Men In Black I, Men In Black II, and the Target exclusive of Men In Black: The Animated Series were on sale. All three sets came with an offer for a free ticket to see Men In Black III.

I thought it was a good deal. And it’s exactly the type of thing I like to see before the release of a popular sequel. Men In Black: The Animated Series has never been on DVD. It was a good show. And to get it on DVD, all it took was a third movie and some executive to say that releasing the series would be a good promotion.

I like the hype that companies go through when they’re releasing the next chapter of a franchise. It gets people excited, as well as thinking about the newest release. As someone who hasn’t thought much about Men In Black since the sequel came out in 2002, it’s been good seeing all these releases.

Personally, I went ahead and bought the animated series and Men In Black I. I already had Men In Black II, and had no reason to buy it again. Now I’ve got two free tickets to see Men In Black III and I’m looking forward to it, far more than I was before all this targeted advertising.

Weekly Comic Review

My comic pick this week is Amazing Spider-Man #686. It’s the penultimate (I’ve always liked that word, which for some reason, I only see in solicits for comic books) and features Doctor Octopus.

It was an interesting issue. Check it out it you’re looking to take a break from the Avengers VS X-Men event and want to see something focusing on your friendly neighborhood spider!

TV & Film Portfolio

Over the past several weeks, I’ve previewed each of the big comic and sci-fi movies coming out this summer. We took a look at: The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, Men In Black III, and The Dark Knight Rises.

As of right now, The Avengers is shattering box office records, and Men In Black III opened today!

I’m curious to see how these movies will rank when Summer comes to an end. Which ones will have the highest box office numbers? Will Avengers remain top dog, or will The Dark Knight dethrone the team? And how will Spider-Man and Men In Black place?

Here’s my prediction. And remember… This isn’t about which movie is the best, it’s about how they will rank in box office dollars.

I think it’s a safe bet that Men In Black III will be on the bottom. Unless it really wins big with the kid audience, I don’t think it’s going to rake in more money than the other three comic book adaptations. I think The Amazing Spider-Man will come in third place. And then, it’s a toss-up for top film. Avengers may be the king, but The Dark Knight Rises is the sequel to the third highest grossing film ever. Will enough people push this one to the top?

It’s possible, but the villain for this film isn’t as exciting as the Joker, who was so heavily promoted in The Dark Knight. I think most people don’t expect the third film to be as good, so it might not see the numbers it’s predecessor saw. So, I’m going to say that The Avengers will be in first place, followed by The Dark Knight, Then The Amazing Spiderman, and finally, Men In Black III.
